Even though the service of providing translations for audio video applications extends back to early cinema, it has only achieved any special focus in more recent times. In fact, during the 1950’s to 1970’s the subject area of translating audio video content didn’t go through any evolutionary changes. Instead, the field hibernated until the mid 1990’s and early 21st century. Primarily, the lack of progress in the field was due to the lack of major technological developments that could generate new efficiencies and produce higher quality.. It’s the intention of this work to provide interested readers with a brief overview of AVT.For those in the translation service, entering the AVT arena will demand even greater technical skills and linguistic competencies because there are many more obstacles that must be faced. Some common difficulties present themselves during high speed scenes and quick exchanges of dialogue that are often combined with problems associated with localization and sociolectal variations, simultaneous speech, music soundtracks and special effect noises. All these factors contribute to making the translation of the audiovisual program a necessity for the vast majority of viewers.In nearly all cases, the Arabic Translation of audiovisual content is most easily provided to the client in one of two preferred methods. In nearly all instances, the choices given will be that verbal content keeps its form (like the original) or verbal content is made into written content. When the client decided that verbal content should maintain its audible form, the audio track is replaced or modified with one that contains the target language. This is procedure is often called revoicing. The exchange of audio that takes place is often done in one of two ways. One method calls for complete replacement of the original audio where the movie watcher can no longer hear the original exchanges. The other methods or partially removes the original content so that background noises are still noticeable. While subtitling, dubbing and voiceover are the most common techniques due to their minimal use of financial resources and human capital, they are by no means the only language transfer options available in the industry. According to a number of Portuguese Translation workers in the audiovisual field, there are a minimum of 10 different types of language translation and transfer methods available today. Instead of going into every type available, we will instead provide a brief description of the main methods that include voiceovers, dubbing and subtitling.The practice known as dubbing consists of the removal of the original soundtrack and then replacing it with a recording that contains translations of the recorded languages. The goal is to make the new recording as close to the original in sounds and meaning as possible as to not distract from the original message. Subtitling is the written representation of the spoken audio of a program that has been translated into another language and timed to appear in sync with the audio.The term voiceover refers to the German Translation voice of an unseen actor or reporter is never seen and is usually meant to replace the words spoken by the actor.. It is common practice to allow viewers to hear a few seconds of the original foreign speech before reducing the volume and superimposing the translation.
