Changes for Deer Season
January 3rd, 2012On the first day of rifle deer season, locals in Pennsylvania say they were quite successful in their efforts and one hunter reported that he was able to bag a ten point buck that weighed almost a hundred and fifty pounds. The man said he traditionally employed Remington rifles for that purpose and that his gun didn’t let him down this time. Interestingly, a number of people who were involved in hunting season this year report that they were able to hunt game that was significantly larger than in years past. One man who is almost fifty years old says that this was the first year that he’s ever seen deer that big for hunting.
A change in the rules this year regarding the opening of deer season mandated that hunters could not take deer that weren’t bucks in the first five days of the season and that more expansive hunting options weren’t available until the season was more advanced. The policy was enacted because some hunters were concerned that they could not find deer later in the season and that restriction on what type of hunting could occur in the earlier part of the season would ensure that hunters that got out late would be able to find game.
Wildlife experts in the area suggested that they were surprised at the size of some of the game since there were fewer acorns available for the deer to eat during the year which should have resulted in less growth. The hunting season seems to have gotten off to a great start, however, with many new hunters bagging their first deer with the opening of deer hunting season.
